Corkins Lodge
Corkins Lodge is perfectly situated to be a fly fisherman's "home base" for a multi-day fishing trip in Northern New Mexico and Southern Colorado. Located about 17 miles southeast of the town of Chama, it places you within a short drive to all of the best fishing locations in the area. The Corkins property is located at the end of the road that runs up the Brazos River and directly under the Brazos cliffs, giving it stunning scenery and landscapes. Originally founded in the 1920s as a private fishing camp, Corkins offers guests a taste of history with upgraded modern comforts and amenities, befitting a fine western fishing lodge. There are 10 individual log and wooden cabins located on the secluded, private grounds. The largest cabins can accommodate up to ten guests and the smaller cabins are perfect for one or two people. Each cabin features a full kitchen, fireplace or wood stove (stocked with firewood, kindling, and fire-making supplies), a private deck with gas BBQ grill and free Wi-Fi internet access. The cabins have either king or queen beds made up with fresh, clean and crisp linens - all of the comforts and conveniences you will need after a long day of fishing. The ranch style gourmet meals are prepared by our chef Austin Meerfeld and his staff and are served in your cabins. Corkins is a perfect location for either small or large groups wanting to experience the best fly fishing and beauty to be found in the Rocky Mountains. Encompassing over 1,000 acres of a long alpine valley and located at 8,500 feet, Cow Creek Ranch is surrounded by National Forest land at the edge of the Pecos Wilderness. It has an incredibly productive trout stream (Cow Creek itself) that meanders for 3.5 miles through an alpine valley along with seven high mountain lakes - both the stream and the lakes offer anglers some of the largest trout and finest fly fishing to be had anywhere in the West. Cow Creek has been professionally enhanced to provide dozens of pools that support trout averaging 16 to 20+ inches in length. The lower section of the stream produces mostly larger browns and rainbows and the upper stretch has a good population of brook trout and some pure strain Rio Grande Cutthroats; how about a northern New Mexico trout “grand slam”?The lodge and its accommodations are an experience that can only be termed “rustic luxury”, unlike anywhere else in the Rocky Mountain West. The great room, with comfortable chairs, sofas and a river rock fireplace, is the perfect place to relax with a cocktail after a long day of fishing. During the summer months there is a large flagstone patio with a fire pit where guests can sit and enjoy the sunsets. The guest rooms are located under a portal off a large lawn, each with its own entrance and bath. They have viga ceilings, kiva fireplaces and comfortable king or queen beds. The views from their windows look out into the river valley and the lakes below. The ranch chefs prepare wholesome, tasty meals which are served in the lodge’s dining room or, if the weather permits, out on the flagstone patio.
